Choosing Steel & Galvanised Pipe

Steel and galvanised pipe is used on main lines, fire mains and anywhere needing high mechanical strength. Hot-dip galvanising gives a zinc layer that protects against rust, and standard lengths are 6 m threaded at both ends. Its main drawback is internal narrowing from deposits over the years, which is why it is now used less than PPR for flat rough-in.
